About this artwork
In Waves, the reactions created these extraordinary layers and rippling lines that immediately made me think of the beaches in Trinidad where I grew up. I see currents, breaking waves and deep pools, but also something geological — as though I am looking at layers of rock or a landscape formed over thousands of years.
I love that the painting can shift depending on how closely you look at it. From a distance there is a sense of sweeping movement, while up close there are intricate lines and tiny formations created by the reactions between the materials.
