About this artwork

I created Blackwater through my ongoing experimentation with pigments and chemical reactions, allowing different materials to meet, repel, merge and transform across the surface.

For me, the darkness is not an absence of life. It is where life seems to be forming. Turquoise, gold, violet and soft mineral tones emerge through the black like microscopic organisms, mineral deposits or unfamiliar ecosystems seen beneath the surface of water.

The painting reflects my fascination with the invisible forces constantly shaping the natural world—chemical reactions, growth, decay and transformation. Processes that usually happen beyond our sight become visible and unexpectedly beautiful.
